Earlier this weekend the folks over at Neatorama posted of video from Me Pearl Productions on Proper Opossum Pedicure Procedure. If you don’t read Neatorama, you should, and if you don’t have an opossum, well, quite frankly, you shouldn’t.

After watching the video, I decided to cruise on over to Me Pearl’s website and poke around. What I found horrified, and intrigued me. You can’t stop looking, but you know you should. You’re drawn in, there is something oddly delightful, yet creepy about the whole thing. The woman is mad, absolutely bonkers. She believe she is a reincarnated squirrel, she sell preserves. For Christ’s sake she has a pet opossum that she gives pedicures, and frequent massages. I guess what is most unsettling, is the fact I recognize, this is my future. That it is only a matter of time before I completely lose my mind, start chatting it up with the local wildlife and start a porcupine spa.

Also if you are looking to donate to a NON tax deductible ‘charity’ Pearl has some words of wisdom for you.

The Foie et Burger Oignon: A Gastronomical Assault of Epic Epicness

My beloved internet admirers, it’s been a while since I graced you with a post. I have ignored you like one ignores the ugly girl in the corner of the bar. Well guess what? I’ve got my beer goggles on and I am talking to you now.

To be honest, I have a ton of grad school prep that consumes me like a raging, rabid staph infection on infection steroids, eating away at my soul. As a result the last few months have been rather uninspiring, but yesterday, my dearest readers that all changed. Yesterday, I dreamed of a most wonderful concoction of artery poisoning, greatness. A gastronomical assault of epic epicness. A burger so chocked full of awesomeness it can only be consumed once in a lifetime.

I give thee, the Foie et Burger Oignon. What is it you ask? Well it’s not your grandmama’s liver and onions, that’s for damn sure. I am talking locally raised, grass fed, dry aged, Angus beef, topped with fried duck pate, thick cut Black Forest bacon, aged Gouda, and last but not least, an onion ring all served on a garlicky, toasty, type focaccia roll. This is quite possibly the greatest burger I have ever created. This is quite possibly the greatest burger known to man. The flavors danced harmoniously around the palate like Baryshnikov on Usher juice. It was perfect! The pate, the onions, the bacon, all working together. Oh god, I’m hungry.

Perhaps this I what I needed to get back on the horse, perhaps this is a awake up call informing me my talents will be wasted in the mundane 9-5 world of cubicles and water coolers. We shall see.

Those of you folks who are blessed to know me away from the interweb know of my love, my obsession with porcupines. These poor, docile, misunderstood creatures get a bad rap. FYI they CANNOT and DO NOT ‘throw’ their quills. The quills are DROPPED if and when there is contact or if the animal is stressed. Tomorrow, Chris Pureka’s much anticipated, How I learned to See in the Dark hits store shelves. Living in Northampton, MA I have been a longtime fan of Pureka’s flawless guitar playing and mesmerizing stage presence. Her debut album Driving North, is one of my top five must have albums. I never leave for a road trip without it. How I learned to See in the Dark is an album you can listen to in its entirety and never want to skip a track. It is quickly becoming one of my new favorites.

According to E News there’s a new media whore in the Palin family. Looks like Bristol just couldn’t help herself. Ms Palin has decided to speak up on an issue she knows a lot about, teen pregnancy. Her words of wisdom, “I’m privileged, so it’s OK that I got pregnant, but you’re not, so don’t.” I wish the whole Palin family would just go away.

Happy Day After Easter. I am sorry for the weak Monday update, but I ate too many peeps and drank too much of Christ’s blood. Watch this hamster and rejoice in his awesomeness.

Happy Resurrection Day AKA Easter to everyone. Easter is hands down my favorite holiday. The weather in the Northeast is almost bearable. One could conceivably play whiffle ball. There is egg hiding and finding, chocolate bunnies to mutilate, and then there are peeps. Ahh peeps. What would we do without peeps? This is the centerpiece from last year’s Resurrection Fest. This year who knows.

Peep Fact: Due to the insulating properties of their tasty marshmallowy innards peeps do not conduct electricity. Trust me, we tried it last year with various sized batteries and Peeps soaked in h2O.

Peep Fact: Do to their tasty marshmallowy innards peeps aren’t digestible by dogs (well at least my dog). The end result is something no man, woman, or child should ever have to see.

It often takes a super expensive study done by one of the country’s top neuroscientists to get us to take a step back and say “Oh yeah, I hadn’t thought of that.” and then continue throughout our oblivious day. Laughing, you know, “ha, ha, hahahaha”, turns out we all do it and according to Dr. Provine of the University of Maryland, Baltimore no matter what language you speak or what culture you are from we all do it the same way. “All language groups laugh `ha-ha-ha’ basically the same way”. Each “ha” is about one-15th of a second, repeated every fifth of a second said Provine.

Beyond the cultural similarities in laughter the thing that fascinated me the most is that laughing can be seen across species. It isn’t reserved to just humans. Dogs laugh, chimps laugh and apparently after a good tickling rats laugh as well. In fact rats enjoy the tickly/laughing combo so much they return for a second helping of it. It’s gross. I mean, they are disease-carrying varmint, but yet there is something endearing about it. It almost warms my cold, black, rodent-hating, heart. I have supplied a video of the rat tickling research for those of you not disgusted by human rat canoodling.
